Bishop Kingsley decided to intervene to offer emergency assistance to over three thousand people from nine hundred families displaced by the civil unrest in the East of Sri-Lanka. These Internally Displaced Persons have vacated their homes and have sought shelter in temporary relief camp which was not designed to home these vast numbers of people. Most hail from the villages of Paduwankarai and Kokaddichcholai. They have been evacuated and settled temporarily in the heart of the small towns including Kaluwanchikudy and Kalmunai. The goal of Bishop Kingsley was to provide each family with a basic pack supplied with dry rations and other basic items.
