Skanda Vale Hospice has provided a full respite care service to anybody over the age of 18 who has been diagnosed with a life threatening illness. The Hospice imposes no geographical restrictions on admissions and everything, from food to therapy, is offered completely free of charge. The Hospice aims to provide a one-to-one care service.
The centre itself is a non-institutional, homely environment finished and equipped to a very high standard. At its heart is the day room, where patients can enjoy a rejuvenating home cooked meal on their own or in the company of other guests and carers. After the meal, patients can relax in a comfortable lounge or adjoining conservatory. The Hospice has found the conservatory to be popular between the months of October and March. During other months its popularity wanes as the room becomes unusable due to overheated and intense brightness. Due to the fact the Hospice is getting busier every year, more space can be gained with the simple measure of installing ceiling blinds with solar reflective coating.
