Emergency Tsunami Relief

The 2004 Tsunami disaster created much devastation and suffering to the East cost of Sri-Lanka.  TVF partnered with the Ramakrishna Mission to source and deliver emergency supplies to the victims, especially in isolated regions. The Mission has excellent knowledge of the area and was one of the first agencies to dispatch lorries to the affected areas with the necessary supplies.

Access to the East was difficult with roads affected by the Tsunami disaster and flooding on rural roads. The areas of distribution included Trincomalee district Villages, Mullaitivu Camp and a number of relief camps in Batticaloa including Ramakrishna Puram, Puthukudiyirruppu & Thalankuda, Kallar, Oonthachimadam, Kaluthavalai, Paddiruppu, Thethathivu, Mankadu, Cheddipalaiyam, Kirankulam and Dharmapuri.

The provisions sent included basic food items (rice, flour, biscuits, milk, baby items, basic toiletries, clothes and medical supplies).
