This major project provides accommodation and education to up to 300 deaf and blind children per year.
Nuffield School for deaf and blind children is located in Kaithady, which is in Jaffna District situated in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka. Founded in 1965, the school accommodate 18 handicap students and 4 staff, now the school caters for over 200 children and 24 staff with extremely limited and damaged facilities. Civil War fought for three decades in Sri Lanka has had a disastrous impact on the Nuffield School. Most of the buildings in the school were badly damaged after the Sri Lankan ceasefire which was brokered in 2002, and ended in early 2006.
To significantly improve the future for the school and children, TVF raised over £100, 000 and funded a complete refurbishment of the facilities which now provide a safe and clean environment for the children and teachers.
Works began in November 2011 and were completed in September 2012.
